Youth Soccer Players Celebrate MLK Day by Making Blankets
In honor of MLK Day on January 19th, Elite Soccer Community Organization (ESCO) Youth Leaders spent several hours on their day off from school making blankets for oncology patients at Northwest Community Hospital (NCH), fulfilling their desire to perform a day of service on that day. To see first hand how their efforts will make a difference, on January 26th, several Youth Leaders and ESCO staff hand delivered 84 blankets to NCH. Oncology Acute Care Staff Nurse Julie Birkenheier said, "These blankets will bring a huge smile to our patients. They will not only warm them physically, but be a wonderful comfort to feel like home during their stay with us." This is not the first time ESCO Youth Leaders have supported NCH. In October, the group raised $1,900 in partnership with Dunkin' Donuts Arlington Park during Breast Cancer Awareness Month for NCH's Breast Center.
ESCO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to building community by developing youth through soccer in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. For more information about ESCO, visit www.elitesoccercommunity.org.
