Know your numbers to learn your risk for heart disease
Elgin, Ill. - Advocate Sherman Hospital is giving residents the opportunity to learn the numbers that impact their heart health and risk for heart attack and other heart-related diseases.
Three locations will offer a $25 blood draw from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 10 through March 7.
The low-cost blood draw includes results for glucose, the lipid panel (HDL, LDL, triglycerides and cholesterol), and glycated hemoglobin (A1C).
Appointment is required, and participants must fast for 12 hours before the test. The tests will take place at Sherman Hospital outpatient centers located at 2000 McDonald Road, South Elgin; 2320 Royal Blvd., Elgin; and 600 S. Randall Road, Algonquin.
Residents are encouraged to learn how these numbers impact their risk for heart attack by attending a free program called "How to Prevent a Heart Attack" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. either Feb. 5 or 26, at Advocate Sherman Hospital.
