Icy roads predicted this morning, snow later

The weekend warm up is over and, as temperatures dip back below freezing, the National Weather Service is advising people to beware of potentially icy roads early this morning with a few inches of snow to follow. The service issued a hazardous weather outlook on Monday afternoon for most of Northern Illinois including Lake, Cook and DuPage counties. Full story.

Reports: Duckworth will consider Senate run

U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a Hoffman Estates Democrat, is weighing a run for U.S. Senate, reports say. If nominated as the Democrat for the 2016 Senate race, Duckworth would be lined up to take on U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, a Highland Park Republican who told the Daily Herald this year that opponents would face "quite a hill to climb." Full story.

Officials want no bond for former teacher accused of sex with students

Lake County prosecutors say they want to revoke bail for a former Gavin Elementary District 37 teacher who is accused of sexually assaulting two former students. Prosecutors will ask Judge Daniel Shanes on Thursday to hold Michael Vucic without bail while he awaits trial, said Cynthia Vargas, spokeswoman for the Lake County state's attorney's office. Officials: Fire displaces 16; building had no working smoke alarms

At least 16 residents of a Cary apartment building are without a home after a fire on Saturday morning, but officials say they are lucky everyone got out unharmed. Full story.

Fox confident his straight talk will help Bears

Bears head coach John Fox inherited a Carolina team that went 1-15 in 2001, and in two years he had the Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. In Denver, he took over a Broncos team that went 4-12 in 2010 and the next year he won the first of four straight AFC West titles. Fox knows exactly what the most important common denominator was in those turnarounds and what it will take to transform a 5-11 Bears into a playoff contender. NHL disagrees with Blackhawks' Carcillo, suspends him

On Saturday morning, Daniel Carcillo called his cross-check on Winnipeg's Mathieu Perrault the previous night "kind of a hockey play." Yesterday, the NHL Department of Player Safety said it absolutely was not a hockey play, suspending the veteran forward six games for his actions. Full story.
