Icy roads predicted tonight, snow Tuesday

The weekend warm up is over and, as temperatures dip back below freezing, the National Weather Service is advising people to beware of potentially icy roads tonight into Tuesday with a few inches of snow to follow.

The service issued a hazardous weather outlook on Monday afternoon for most of Northern Illinois including Lake, Cook and DuPage counties.

"A period of spotty light freezing rain is possible from mid-evening into the overnight hours across portions of Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana," the advisory says.

Not much freezing rain is predicted, but any moisture "could make for a few slick spots on untreated roads, parking lots or sidewalks."

The occasional light freezing rain may linger into Tuesday morning's commute in the suburbs, the National Weather Service predicted.

From Tuesday night into Wednesday, the area could see one to two inches of snow accumulation as well, according the statement issued by the service.
