Des Moines trial delayed in fatal beating of 97-year-old man

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A trial has been delayed until April for a 19-year-old man accused of fatally beating to death a 97-year-old Des Moines resident.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/1sxQcP5 ) that the trial of Ngor Makuey is scheduled to begin April 13. It was scheduled to begin Jan. 26.

Makuey has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and several other charges. Makuey is accused of entering the home of Rupert and Harriet Anderson on July 2 and attacking the couple. Rupert Anderson died of his injuries. Ninety-four-year-old Harriet Anderson survived.

Police have said the attack on the Andersons was seemingly random.
