Believe Project: $100 to help empower women of Zambia
Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Marge Hamberg of Huntley.
Here is an excerpt of her pitch:
"In 2012 I journeyed to Zambia, Africa, with Extending Hands. Its mission is to benefit the widows/vulnerable women of Zambia by using their talents and gifts to create products that are marketable in Zambia and throughout the world while being empowered, loved and lifted up to see and become who God has created them to be. I taught them how to crochet purses from plastic bags. What a joy it was to teach them a new skill and realize that this project could potentially become a career that would put food on the table and send their children to school.
Their knitting machine had some broken hooks and needs repair. Knitting hats and supplying schoolchildren with uniform sweaters is at a standstill. The $100 would be used on these repairs so work can start again."
• The Believe Project will mail a $100 bill each day to someone with a good idea for how to use it to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name, address and hometown) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
