A simple prayer for the new year

To whomever may be the deity of your choice:

We pray for good governance, that our legislators both local and federal create a common good, act unselfishly and without corruption.

We thank you for the protections of our military defenders, firefighters, police departments and utility workers. We ask that you keep them safe from harm's way, so they may continue the process of nurturing their families, protecting our nation and communities and helping others.

We ask you to have mercy on the underserved, the undernourished and the underloved so that they may enjoy all the blessings of a healthy and full life.

Finally, we pray to heal the spirits of those with dark places in their heart, so they may come into the light of creation, to praise you, to love thy neighbor, and to foster all the good humanity can bring.
