Vernon Hills woman charged in park garbage can fire

A Vernon Hills woman faces criminal charges after police say she lit a park garbage can on fire.

A person walking their dog noticed the fire in Augusta Park, 210 Augusta Drive, at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday, police said in a news release.

The responding police officer extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher in his car. The officer then went to a home on the 400 block of Albany Lane, which is in the same neighborhood of the park.

Police arrested Stephanie M. Wollar, 28, and charged her with criminal damage to government property, a Class 4 felony.

Wollar was previously charged in November 2014 with starting a fire in a Vernon Hills park, police said.

She will appear in bond court Friday morning.
