Pedestrian hit by freight train Sunday in unincorporated Naperville

A man was hit by a freight train Sunday night on the BNSF Railway in unincorporated Naperville, officials said Monday.

The pedestrian has been identified as 20-year-old Christopher Weiland, according to the DuPage County Coroner's office. Weiland was struck by the westbound freight train at about 10:08 p.m. Sunday and his death was pronounced at the scene at 10:30 p.m., according to the coroner.

The incident delayed three trains last night, Metra Spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

The coroner's office said the incident is still under investigation, but no autopsy will be performed. Toxicology testing is pending.
