Schaumburg awarded for saving Pace bus route
The village of Schaumburg has been given the American City & County Crown Communities Award for its role in preserving Pace Bus Route 554, which it considered a vital transportation link serving a variety of Schaumburg destinations. The village partnered with Pace and surrounding communities to help pay for the failing route, reconfigure it so that it became bidirectional, and lengthen its hours and days of service to increase ridership. Ridership has grown from 21,000 in 2001 to 150,000 this year, and the subsidies are no longer needed, saving Schaumburg $15,000 annually.
