Bloomingdale police seek help to solve Monday shooting

Police so far Wednesday are saying little as to why a 37-year-old car salesman and former basketball player was shot outside a Bloomingdale townhouse Monday night.

Nate J. Fox was hit by gunfire at least twice outside a townhouse on the 200 block of Tamarack Drive, Police Chief Frank Giammarese said.

Bloomingdale police were alerted at about 9:40 p.m. Monday. Fox was taken to Adventist Glen Oaks Medical Center in Glendale Heights where he died, police said.

No one answered the doorbell of the townhouse on Wednesday afternoon. All the lights were off, and a decorated Christmas tree was visible through the living room window.

According to a neighbor who asked not to be identified citing safety concerns, the townhouse is owned by a woman, and Fox appeared to either live there or stay there often. No one else lived in the home, the neighbor said.

Giammarese said Fox arrived at the townhouse after leaving his workplace in the Downers Grove area.

"We did interview a person who resided at the address where he was found, and that person was a cooperative witness," Giammarese said.

Fox was driving a maroon 2013 Jaguar XJ with Illinois plates R554813, police said. "We are telling the public in case something would have occurred on the way from the place he left, to the time he got to Bloomingdale," Giammarese said, adding the car is not missing.

Fox was an outgoing man who loved to laugh and took pride in being an honest car salesman, a loved one said Wednesday evening.

A native of Joliet, Fox attended Boston College and the University of Maine, and played basketball for 12 years in several European countries, the loved one said. A Wikipedia entry for Fox states he last signed in 2011 with the French club STB Le Havre.

A viewing for Fox will take place 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road in Joliet; funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the same location.

Giammarese offered condolences to Fox's family and said police are working hard to solve his murder.

"We are following up on all potential leads. We are working tirelessly to find out who is responsible for this," Giammarese said. "Our thoughts go out to the family who lost a loved one."

This is the first homicide in Bloomingdale since Marci Webber killed her 4-year-old daughter in 2010, Giammarese said.

Webber was found not guilty by reason of insanity and is serving a maximum 100-year commitment at Elgin Mental Health Center.

Anyone with information about Fox or the shooting is asked to call police at (630) 529-9868. The DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force is assisting Bloomingdale police with the investigation.
