Businesses donate to Elk Grove H.S. all-female robotics team
Local businesses donated $1,000 to Elk Grove High School's all-female robotics team, helping them purchase materials to compete in a district-sponsored competition.
Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership and Diemasters Mfg., Inc., provided the funding earlier this month. The money will be used to purchase new parts to build a robot, such as a new servo weapon motor, transceivers and receivers.
"We greatly appreciate Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing and Diemasters Mfg. for being apart of our Manufacturing and Engineering Advisory Board as well as their generosity to the engineering and machining programs at Elk Grove High School," said Patrick McGing, an Elk Grove High School teacher.
Most of the girls on the team are students in Elk Grove's all-girls Intro to Engineering Design course, which began this school year as a way to encourage more female students to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The competition takes places at Elk Grove High School on Feb. 27-28.
