I-65 bridge project easing over holidays

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Motorists traveling between Louisville and southern Indiana during the holidays may find driving a little easier with no new interstate or ramp closures planned for the downtown bridge project starting Monday and continuing through Jan. 4.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Project Manager Andy Barber says the break should mean less stress during holiday travel. Barber says officials want to help travelers arrive safely and not be concerned about road construction and closures.

Long-term lane restrictions and closures remain. A list of continuing closures is at http://kyinbridges.com/downtown-crossing/get-around/traffic-updates/ .

Construction crews are to be back at work on Jan. 5.

The new downtown bridge is scheduled to open to two-way traffic in April 2016. Both it and the restored Kennedy Bridge carrying Interstate 65 across the Ohio River will be complete in December 2016.
