Elk Grove High School performs at Clearmont Elementary
The Elk Grove High School choir, Chamber Singers (formerly called the Town Criers), visited Clearmont Elementary for a holiday performance on Monday, Dec. 15.
The Chamber Singers performed a variety of traditional holiday classics as well as a song entirely in French and a beatbox mix.
Clearmont students enjoyed the interactive moments with high school students. Choir members sang a comically confused version of the "Twelve Days of Christmas" with elementary students helping to provide the correct lyrics and plenty of laughter.
Sarah Catt, the Elk Grove High School choir director, asked for an audience volunteer and chose fifth-grader Danny Gaskill to be the temporary maestro of the choir.
"It was great to be picked at an assembly - it was the first time!" Danny said. "The concert was great, awesome!"
The Elk Grove High School students enjoyed the experience. Gwen Kic, Fine Arts Division assistant at Elk Grove High School, said it provides the Chamber Singers the opportunity to pique the interest of the children in singing and just have fun.
Dan Allaway, assistant principal of Clearmont, expressed his gratitude for the performance. "It is always a wonderfully positive opportunity for our students at Clearmont to enjoy the very talented singers from EGHS," Allaway said. "It really gets our students in the holiday spirit, and it has become a favorite among our school's traditions."
The Chamber Singers also performed at Brentwood, Salt Creek, Devonshire, Admiral Byrd and the Ridge Family Center for Learning in CCSD59.
