Elgin man sentenced to 15 years for cocaine delivery

An Elgin man with multiple drug convictions pleaded guilty to selling cocaine to Elgin undercover police officers.

Ina Spates, 33, pleaded guilty last week to the manufacture and delivery of cocaine, court records show. In exchange, Spates was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta also ordered Spates to pay $3,388 in fines.

Spates was on parole when he sold cocaine in amounts ranging from 5.1 grams to 11.3 grams to undercover officers, prosecutors said.

The sales took place between Dec. 31, 2013, and March 21, 2014, at various Elgin locations, including Lords Park, prosecutors said.

Spates received credit for 146 days in custody. He must complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
