Pink Taxi of Park Ridge donates $1,000 to help cancer patients
Pink Taxi co-founder Patti Carpenter, a 15-year cancer survivor, along with her business partner, Mike Kowal, presented an oversized $1,000 check to Advocate Luther General Hospital's Cancer Survivorship Center at 1999 Dempster St., in Park Ridge, which will be used to buy wigs for cancer patients that have lost their hair due to chemotherapy treatments.
Accepting the $1,000 check on behalf of the hospital was Mary Hurd and Linda Burgard, Survivorship Program coordinator, who shared that because personal health insurance does not cover such items as wigs, the Cancer Survivorship Center is using the $1,000 donated by Pink Taxi to help hundreds of women stay looking beautiful as they endure a rough time in their lives.
Patti Carpenter founded Pink Taxi four years ago, with the hopes of creating breast cancer awareness in the community, while offering a safe, comfortable, taxi experience, in a smoke-free car, with friendly drivers, all while donating a portion of the proceeds to the cause. Pink Taxi, a full service transportation company, serves Park Ridge, O'Hare Airport and surrounding suburbs. The female-owned taxi company, located in Park Ridge, donates proceeds from every fare to breast cancer research and related charities.
