Reinhard, Barrington clean up on Rolling Meadows
Barrington's William Reinhard likes to do nothing better than to clean up his teammates' missed shots under the basket.
The 6-foot-6 junior forward scored 12 points Saturday night that included 3 putback baskets in addition to grabbing 9 rebounds.
Reinhard's work combined with Rapolas Ivanauskas' 21 points 8 rebounds and Chris Lester's 15 points helped Barrington (5-2) earn a 71-54 decision at Rolling Meadows in a Mid-Suburban League crossover contest.
"One of my strengths is cleaning up the misses off the boards," Reinhard said. "It's part of the game that get's overlooked. Getting putbacks is a good way to help your team to win in a individual way."
"William has been solid for us," said Broncos coach Bryan Tucker. "He's plays well under the basket. He's smart and he's relentless. Now's he's beginning to emerge as a scorer."
The Broncos received plenty of scoring from Ivanauskas and Lester.
"Lester did a real nice job controlling (Jared) Murphy holding him to 8 points," Tucker said. "Rolling Meadows (2-4) has some talented players. This was a nice win coming off last night's win at Hoffman Estates. Winning the conference game was important, but tonight we tried to wok on improving and cleaning up some things from the night before."
The Broncos led from start to finish, breaking out to an 11-3 lead before the Mustangs pulled to 14-10 on Emmanuel Lopez's basket with 2:10 left in the first quarter.
Reinhard scored and Scott Bennet (8 points) converted a 3-point play before Ben Weber took a pass from Reinhard to score at the buzzer for a 21-10 lead.
"We look for each other more than last year's team," Reinhard said. "We are all good at sharing the ball. We are stressing to ourselves to play as a team. We take pride in finding the open man."
The Broncos had 17 assists on their 30 baskets.
The Mustangs made a charge early in the fourth quarter. Trailing 52-32, Mustangs guard John Lothery scored 9 of his team-high 20 points to help close the gap. Murphy's 2 free throws with 2:35 left in the game made the score 62-52.
Ivanauskas made two nice drives to the basket to make the score 66-52 and salt away the win.
"That comeback is something we can build on," said Mustangs coach Kevin Katovich. "We're making improvement. We're going to get there but it's going to take some time. Our players have a lot of heart and desire. I'm confident they will get better."
