Signs of change in Schaumburg
Patrick Chmielewski knows all about the signs of change.
As a day porter for the Village of Schaumburg, that is to say a maintenance man, one of his responsibilities is to change the two signs along Schaumburg Road flanking village hall on the west and the Prairie Center for the Arts on the east. A mail bin at his feet holds the letters that are in order, ready to be placed on the sign.
"Sometimes I change the signs two times a week, three times a week, once a week ... usually once a week," Chmielewski said as he worked on one of the signs Thursday. "This one will stay up until Monday."
The latest sign announces the village's trolley service carrying shoppers to the Woodfield Mall and nearby retail centers during the holiday season.
