Schaumburg firefighters free man's hand from machine
Schaumburg firefighters on Monday afternoon freed a man whose hand was trapped in a type of stitching machine, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the call just after 3:30 p.m. on the 2200 block of Palmer Drive where an employee had gotten his ring finger stuck, Schaumburg Capt. Martin Sand said.
"He was alert enough to pretty much direct his own rescue," he said. "He was an expert on the machine."
Firefighters were able to free the man quickly using a pipe wrench to rotate the machine backward. He was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
"We're unsure on the status of his finger," Sand said. "It was deformed, but he took it like a trouper."
