Playhouse 38 hosts auditions for "Willy Wonka"

Geneva Park District is holding auditions for its first-ever family musical at Playhouse 38.

Adults and children, ages 6 and older, are invited to audition for "Willy Wonka," with music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, adapted for the stage by Timothy Allen McDonald and Leslie Bricusse and based on the book "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl.

Auditions will be held by appointment on Monday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 5 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Those who wish to audition should prepare up to 32 bars of a musical theater song to be performed a capella and a monologue or cutting from a story or poem of no more than 1 minute in length.

Auditionees may be asked to read from the script. Callbacks, by invitation-only, will be held Dec. 13-14. Call (630) 232-4542 to schedule your audition now.

Once cast, a $245 ($265 for nonresidents) registration fee is required for youth and a $50 registration fee is required for adults.

An additional costuming fee ranging from $25-50 may be assessed based on character needs. Scene and character specific rehearsal schedules will be distributed after casting based upon cast availability. Rehearsals will primarily be held on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until tech week during which daily rehearsals should be expected.
