Island Lake cops honored:

Island Lake police officers Gil Hueramo and Vicki Gwizdak received Life Saving Awards and Medals of Valor on Friday for their efforts to help wounded McHenry County sheriff's deputies during an Oct. 16 shootout in Holiday Hills. A third Island Lake police officer who responded to the emergency, Lisa Knebl, received the medal and award, too. Island Lake Police Chief Don Bero and Mayor Charles Amrich were among the dignitaries on hand for the ceremony at village hall. Hueramo and Gwizdak also were honored this week by McHenry County Sheriff's police.
