Arboretum opens second annual 'Illumination' festival

The Morton Arboretum is giving a whole new meaning to lighting the holiday tree again this year.

While many DuPage County communities are holding traditional tree-lighting ceremonies in the coming weeks, the Lisle museum is doing everybody one, or maybe 100 times, better with its second annual "Illumination: Tree Lights" festival that opens Friday, Nov. 21, and continues through Jan. 3 at 4100 Route 53.

The celebration features thousands of LED lights that transform portions of the arboretum's collection into a palette of hot pinks, neon greens and electric blues while also giving visitors the chance to sing to the trees, hug them or "paint" them with the touch of a hand.
