Final gap filled in Levee 37 along Des Plaines River

Mount Prospect Public Works Director Sean Dorsey announced this week that the final gap in Levee 37 along the Des Plaines River has been completely and permanently filled.

"That brings the project to an end - at least the portion in Mount Prospect," Dorsey said, reminding the board that the work started in March 2009.

The final gap filled is a section located in Prospect Heights, officials said.

The $30 million Levee 37 project, intended to reduce flooding along the Des Plaines, was funded primarily by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights equally shared the cost to obtain the land rights at a cost of $560,000.
