Fast start enough in Harper victory
Leading 34-13 at halftime is usually a good indication that a victory is forthcoming.
"We started off strong," said second-year Harper women's basketball coach Jenny Turpel.
Visiting Morton finished strong, however, as the Hawks had to hang on for a 58-45 victory.
Harper (4-3) used a quick offensive start, shooting 48.3 percent in the first half. As guard Nastia Solsaa put it, the Hawks were "in control of the game" in the first half, when Lane Winkler scored all 9 of her career-high points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Joslyn Nicholson gave Harper a nice chunk of offense, scoring a game-high 16 points before fouling out.
After the intermission, Harper was outscored 32-24. Turpel said her team was not as focused in the second half.
Solsaa was one players who picked up her game, scoring 10 of her 14 points after halftime as Harper snapped a two-game skid by keeping Morton (0-6) winless.
The Hawks will not see there home digs again until Dec. 16, when they welcome Illinois Valley Community College to the Sports and Wellness Center.
