School board candidates must file papers with county, not local districts

A recent state law has changed the way residents file for candidacy in a local school board election. Now, candidates must file their papers directly with the appropriate county office, rather than the local district office. In Cook County, candidate filings will be accepted at the county clerk's downtown Chicago office, 69 W. Washington St., as well as select suburban sites, which have not yet been identified. The filing period runs from Dec. 15 through Dec. 22 for the Consolidated Election on April 7. Nomination petition forms and all other required documents are available through the county as well. Nomination petitions can be circulated now through Dec. 22. For information, go to cookcountyclerk.com/elections.
