Man free on bond in sex assault charged in murder
A Chicago man free on bond on a sexual assault charge is now being held after allegedly fatally shooting a 23-year-old man last week.
Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Novy said Monday that Joshua Grayer and accomplice Jermaine Powell fired on two men in a West Side Chicago gangway late Friday.
Denzell Franklin was shot in the face and armpit and died at the scene. Chicago police say the second man was hospitalized with an arm wound.
Novy says police officers heard the gunshots and observed Grayer and Powell fleeing the scene and eventually arrested them. The 19-year-old men were ordered held without bond.
Prosecutors say Grayer was one of nine men who raped three girls in a van last year. A $10,000 bond was posted by his mother.
