Probe is only wasting taxpayers' money
Gov. Pat Quinn was entrusted with $54 millions of taxpayers' money, our money. A grant in 2010 was for a worthy cause; it was for a Neighborhood Recovery initiative to address street violence. Yet here we are in 2014, and the street violence is far from good. To make matters worse, the governor has been and continues to be investigated because some of the money was allegedly used as a political slush fund. The governor denies the allegation and therefore the investigation continues and taxpayers' money is being wasted. Auditor General William Holland stated his findings showed permissive mismanagement and financial irregularities in the "hastily implemented poorly managed" program.
The governor and the program overseer, Barbara Shaw, claimed that "there are many positive stories of the Neighborhood Recovery initiative that have not been heard." Governor, please stop spending more taxpayer money on this investigation. Provide the auditor general with a traceable log that shows where the money was spent. If you have nothing to hide the case will be over and we the taxpayers will save some money, and by the way, please have Barbara Shaw tell the taxpayers those positive stories that have not been heard yet.
