Batavia police looking for man who attacked officer
Batavia police say they're looking for a man who attacked a police officer from behind earlier this week as the officer responded to a call of a suspicious person. The incident happened outside an apartment complex. The officer never saw his attacker. Full story.
Waukegan teachers' strike continues
The teachers' strike in Waukegan Community School District 60 continues on after negotiations ended at 6 last night with no compromise in sight. School was canceled for the rest of the week, as teachers and the district continue to disagree over salary increases. Dueling statements also lobbed criticisms over peanut butter and sleeping bags. Oberweis, Durbin go into - and leave - debate swinging
U.S. Senate candidates Dick Durbin, the incumbent, and state Sen. Jim Oberweis each took the war into the enemy's camp yesterday in the first major debate of their campaign. Oberweis, a Sugar Grove Republican, accused the Springfield Democrat of shortchanging female staffers while Durbin argued his opponent lacked real GOP values during the exchange on ABC 7 Chicago. Carpentersville defies ruling to release post-traffic stop death details
Despite a ruling from Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office compelling them to release the information, Carpentersville officials refuse to give any details about a man who died at a hospital hours after an encounter with the police. Madigan's office says reports and video of the Aug. 17 arrest of 31-year-old Joshua Paul would not "obstruct an ongoing investigation" and should be released. Full story.
Long Grove man dies in crash
A Long Grove man died after his vehicle ran into a parked semitrailer truck yesterday afternoon, police said. The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on the southbound shoulder of Old McHenry Road. The vehicle caught fire shortly after the crash. Full story.
Prospect Hts. police save man from heroin overdose
A Motel 6 employee who discovered a nearly dead man and a police officer who administered Naloxone, a drug that can reverse heroin and opiate overdoses, are credited with saving the man from a heroin overdose Tuesday night. Within seconds the man took shallow breaths. By Wednesday, he was at the police station thanking officers. Full story.
Prospect Hts. man killed in Indiana crash
A Prospect Heights man died yesterday morning when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into the back of a semitrailer truck stopped in traffic. James P. McHugh Jr., 58, was driving a gold 2007 Harley-Davidson and wearing a helmet. Full story.

Butler injury hopefully heals quick for Bulls
