Girls volleyball: Carmel picks up share of ESCC title
Morgan Meade pounded 11 kills, and Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team made team history Thursday night, despite missing one of its star players.
By defeating host St. Viator 25-14, 25-14, the Corsairs captured a share of the East Suburban Catholic Conference North Division championship.
It's the first ESCC title for Carmel, which improved to 29-5 overall, while finishing 6-2 in the division. Nazareth also finished 6-2.
Carmel senior hitter Grace Schofield sprained her ankle in warm-ups and wasn't able to play. Elizabeth Tworek helped fill the Corsairs' void by rocking 8 kills.
"The team played well as a whole," coach David Pazely said.
Carmels plays Libertyville tonight.
"Schofield will be a game-time decision," Pazely said. "She will likely be ready for the playoffs next week."
Huntley d. Grayslake Central: Taylor O'Neill had 4 kills for the Rams, who lost the Fox Valley Conference crossover 25-15, 25-16.
Hayley Peterson and Allie Daul added 3 kills apiece for Grayslake Central (20-15). Juliana Frusolone was 50-of-50 setting with 13 assists and chipped in 7 digs.
