Coach Q likes change, but Blackhawks' top line staying put
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville is never afraid to mix and match his lines.
He's done that already early this season with his second, third and fourth lines, but so far has left the top line of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa intact.
"It's nice, but I'm sure it'll change at some point and I'm sure everyone's ready for that," Sharp said. "You've been around this team long enough, you know that the lines change week to week, game to game.
"I don't know if it's a luxury, but we're thankful we're still together. Hopefully we can produce a little more and get better as we move along, but we're not surprised by any changes that might be made."
Maybe it'll be a while, though, because the Hawks' top line always seems to produce.
"It's three players that think the same way, take pride in a lot of the little things," Sharp said. "We complement each others' game well. All three guys do good things out there.
"You put all three together and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but hopefully we can get it going again like we did last year.
Solid debut:
Kris Versteeg was happy with his first game back from injury, but the veteran forward realized he had the chance to make it a very special season debut Tuesday against the Flyers had he capitalized on a couple of scoring chances.
"I felt really good," he said. "I had a bunch of good looks and my skating felt good. Just keep going that way and obviously the goals will follow."
Versteeg, who saw nearly 17 minutes of ice time against Philadelphia, feels that his speed has returned after a tough season last year in which his knee admittedly wasn't fully healed.
"I think I'm faster than even before the injury," he said. "At the end of last year I said I wanted to get back to what I felt like when I was 20, 21, and I think that came through this summer through all the training."
Kane do:
Courtesy of his 2 power play goals Tuesday, Patrick Kane now has 498 career points (181 goals, 317 assists) in 520 NHL games, including 20 career regular-season multi-goal games.
He said it:
"You play the game more inside your head than on the ice."
