Champaign police arrest Schaumburg man in sexual attacks

A 29-year-old Schaumburg man was arrested by Champaign police Monday as a suspect in two separate sexual abuse and sexual assault attacks that occurred in the same Champaign apartment building early Saturday morning.

Paul Andrew Rouse of the 500 block of Verde Street in Schaumburg was charged with one count of criminal sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual abuse and two counts of residential burglary.

Rouse was arrested at 6 p.m. Monday at his own Champaign apartment on the 900 block of South Third Street. Champaign police could not say whether Rouse is a university student, but he is considered to have residences in both Schaumburg and Champaign.

The two reported crimes occurred between 3 and 4:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in an apartment building on the 300 block of East Green Street in Champaign.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, Rouse was still being held at the Champaign County Jail.

Champaign police said Rouse's arrest followed significant time and effort following up on leads and processing information obtained during the investigation.
