Chance of severe storms mainly south this evening

Strong thunderstorms with wind gusts in excess of 60 mph could hit the area this evening, the National Weather Service is reporting.

Any of these storms could produce heavy rain, lightning and an "isolated tornado," according to the weather service.

A tornado watch that had been effect for counties south of the Chicago area has been expanded to include Will County. The watch lasts until 10 p.m.

But, the weather service said, "The main threat is damaging wind gusts."

Widespread flooding is not anticipated, the weather service said.

Storms are most likely in an area east of Interstate 55 and south of Interstate 80, the weather service is forecasting.
