Cary-Grove wins at Schaumburg: The Trojans defeated East Peoria, Schaumburg, Larkin and Hononegah, then downed St. Charles North 25-23, 25-23 to win the Saxon Invite at Schaumburg. Abby Schebel (34 kills), Morgan Lee (27 kills), Alli Splitt (29 kills) and Bree Coffey (52 digs) led Cary-Grove (25-7) to the championship.
Also at Schaumburg: Larkin went 0-4-1 at the Saxon Invite, losing to Schaumburg, East Peoria, Cary-Grove and St. Viator and splitting with Bartlett. Danielle Newquist had 29 kills and 19 digs for the Royals, while Amelia Gill had 17 kills and 22 digs, April McGhee 30 digs and Natalie Kofie 20 digs and 63 assists.
CL South wins at Elk Grove: Despite losing to Carmel, the Gators came back to win the championship of the Elk Grove tournament. They beat Willowbrook, De La Salle and Trinity then downed the host school 25-19, 25-12 to win the title. Cassie Sevisind (92 assists, 24 digs), Tori Falbo (37 digs) and Carly Nolan (72 kills, 12 aces, 32 digs and 8 blocks) led Crystal Lake South (23-5) to the title.
Somonauk d. Westminster Christian: Savannah Dutcher had 9 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs and 4 blocks and Emily Lamp added 13 digs, 2 aces and 3 assists for the Warriors in a 25-11, 23-25, 25-21 nonconference loss. Emma Kovachevich added 13 assists, 4 aces and 13 digs for Westminster (6-11-1).
