Quinn inconsistent on gun control
Quinn inconsistent on gun control
After reviewing the Daily Herald's video of Gov. Quinn discussing his stance on "gun control", I feel compelled to point out two glaring inconsistencies.
On several occasions, Mr. Quinn refers to "assault weapons," and his desire to have them banned from the State of Illinois. In fact, automatic assault weapons have always been banned in the United States, except for the military. Referring to all semiautomatic weapons legally owned by law abiding citizens as "assault weapons" makes as much sense as referring to all automobiles as "drunk driving weapons."
Mr. Quinn also recalls the horrible shooting in Aurora, Colorado. He correctly points out that a war veteran was a hero in shielding his girlfriend from gunfire, unfortunately giving his life. What he fails to point out is that the deranged killer passed two theaters closer to his home that allowed concealed carry of weapons, choosing instead a theater where concealed carry was banned.
If concealed carry had been allowed in that theater, not only is it likely that soldier would still be alive, but quite possibly no other innocents would have died. Most criminals are cowards, and concealed carry has been proven to reduce crime. Given what has happened to the crime rate in our state under Gov. Quinn, restricting guns from trained, responsible, law-abiding citizens is exactly the opposite of what we need.
