Five charged in robbery near Wheaton

Five people were arrested and charged Wednesday night with strong-arm robbery in an unincorporated area near Wheaton, authorities said Thursday.

DuPage County Sheriff's officials said the arrests stem from an incident that took place after midnight Sept. 21, when a juvenile victim received a phone call from one of the suspects, asking if he could bring money and assist them since their car had broken down. The victim went outside his residence, where the car had supposedly broken down, but was kicked and punched by three of the suspects. They also took his cellphone and wallet, according to a news release.

Authorities say the suspects were looking for money to buy drugs and alcohol, and picked a victim who they considered wealthy.

Those charged with robbery and aggravated battery are Devonte Allmon, 18, of the 600 block of Michigan Avenue in Villa Park; Kyle Deger, 21, of the 400 block of Phillips Avenue in Glen Ellyn; Nathan Rodriguez, 18, of the 600 block of Swift Road in Addison; and two juvenile suspects.

Bail for Allmon and Deger was set at $100,000 each, and $75,000 for Rodriguez, of which they must each post 10 percent to be released.

Allmon, Rodriguez and Deger are being held in the DuPage County jail and the two juveniles are being held in the Kane County Youth Home.
