Nominate a Shining Star for the 2015 gala

Each year, the Mount Prospect Special Events Commission honors individuals and organizations that help make Mount Prospect a great place in which to live and work. They are celebrated as "Shining Stars" and recognized at a gala banquet. The 22nd annual Celestial Celebration will be Friday, Feb. 6, at The Cotillion Banquets in Palatine.

The Shining Star Awards are presented on the basis of nomination by community leaders, by business people, by residents and others. The person nominating a Shining Star does not need to be a resident of Mount Prospect nor does the Shining Star need to be a resident. For instance, a business can be nominated even if the business leader lives in another community.

"It's an honor to be nominated as a Shining Star and we receive a great response year after year highlighting the tremendous efforts of those who have made a lasting impact on our community," said Special Events Commission chairman Teresa VanOpdorp.

Nomination(s) can be done online. Go to www.mountprospect.org and click on the Shining Star logo on the lower left hand corner. One may also view Nomination Categories on the Shining Star page and a list of those nominated in the past (as someone cannot be honored more than once). If one prefers to fill out the Nomination Form by hand, the form is available on the website on the Shining Star page. All nominations - online and by form - must be received by midnight, Nov. 15.

A selection committee representing a cross-section of the village reviews the nominations and determines the ultimate award winners. The winners will be selected in early December and announced shortly thereafter. Reservation information for those who wish to attend the Gala will be posted on the village website, www.mountprospect.org, in the coming weeks.
