Barrington Hills cop on leave after domestic battery arrest

A Barrington Hills police officer has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest last week on a charge of domestic battery.

Gary A. Deutschle, 40, whose address was listed as Algonquin, was arrested at 4:07 p.m. Thursday in the 4900 block of Thistle Lane in Lake in the Hills, police said.

Records indicate he was transported to the McHenry County jail and appeared before a judge Friday morning prior to posting bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the McHenry County courthouse in Woodstock.

Lake in the Hills Deputy Police Chief Pat Boulden said officers were called to the residence regarding a domestic dispute learned that the female victim's wrist had been struck by a door, causing an injury.

"It was determined that there was a battery and (Deutschle) was taken into custody," he said.

The charge against him is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail if he is convicted. Under state law, Deutschle would also lose his right to possess a firearm if he is convicted of domestic battery, effectively ending his career as a police officer.

Barrington Hills Deputy Police Chief Richard Semelsberger said the department is conducting an independent investigation into the allegations against the officer.

Deutschle could not be reached for comment. His attorney, George Kililis, declined to comment.
