Energy company reaches out to Illinois residents

A Texas energy company that wants to build a 1,100-mile pipeline that would cross west-central Illinois plans to answer residents' questions this week.

Energy Transfers Partners representatives will meet with residents about the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline on Wednesday at Lincoln Land Community College campus in Litchfield and Thursday at the American Legion post in Jacksonville, the State Journal-Register reported.

They will address concerns about the pipeline stretching from the Bakken formation in North Dakota, to Patoka, Illinois, spokeswoman Vicki Granado said.

A map from the company shows the pipeline would be underground through Montgomery, Macoupin and Morgan counties, and along the eastern border of Scott County. It is expected to transport 450,000 barrels of crude oil a day.

The company wants to have the pipeline built and working by the end of 2016.
