Lisle Library's Computer Classes Empower Patrons
Lisle resident Bonnie Miga knows a visit to the Lisle Library District will always result in her learning something new. And while she sometimes browses the collection of printed materials, she finds the Library's computer classes to be the most valuable.
Miga has been a regular attendee at Library programs for the last two years, and most recently attended a session of "Technology Tutors" at the Library on September 9. During these one-on-one sessions, a patron can ask technology questions about a topic of his or her choosing. Miga devoted her recent session to topics that will help her grow her business, such as tips for using Facebook and Twitter and building online contact lists. She also asked about things that will help her save time when using the computer in general, such as keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste.
"There's always something [for me to learn], like 'Oh, I didn't know that!' All the classes are beneficial," said Miga.
"Offering programs like 'Technology Tutors' is part of the Library's mission to enhance the educational development of our community," said Jen Ohzourk, Assistant Director of Adult Services and one of the "Technology Tutors" instructors. "We want patrons to leave our programs feeling empowered."
And that is exactly how Miga feels.
"Jen [Ohzourk] is a great teacher. She'll always mention at least one or two things that help me to be better," said Miga. "I want to go home and practice right away [after my session] so I don't forget."
