Magee out 6-8 months after hip surgery
Chicago Fire forward Mike Magee underwent hip surgery Monday and will be out for the remainder of this season, the team announced Tuesday.
Magee, 30, the 2013 MLS MVP, scored a team-leading 7 goals in 17 matches this season, never quite finding the magic he enjoyed after returning home to Chicago in May 2013 via a trade with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He also had 4 assists.
Magee's recovery is expected to take 6-8 months, so he could miss the start of the 2015 season.
To fill Magee's spot on the roster, the Fire signed French forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle, 29, who has been training with the club the past few weeks. He scored 2 goals in 18 matches for Russian side FC Rostov from 2012 through 2014. He will be added to the roster once his visa and International Transfer Certificiate are received.
The Fire recently signed Welsh forward Robert Earnshaw, 33, but Earnshaw missed Sunday's game at New England with a calf injury.
