Sign up now for St. Jimmy Shimmy 5K

Serious runners, forest preserve fans, and kids and families who just want to have fun are invited to register for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's second annual St. Jimmy Shimmy 5K Run/Walk.

The chip-timed 5K will take runners and walkers along a trail-style course on multiple terrains through rolling woodlands and meadows and past Kremlin-yellow farm buildings. The race steps off at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. James Farm Forest Preserve, Winfield Road, one block north of Butterfield Road, Warrenville.

Early online registration at dupageforest.org/shimmy ends Saturday, Sept. 13, and is $30, which includes a long-sleeved performance shirt. Online registration completed Sept. 14 to 26 is $35 and includes a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt, although size is not guaranteed. Participants can also sign up from 4 to 4:40 p.m. at the event for $40.

Other participants can join a 1-mile guided history hike at 5:05 p.m., and at 6 p.m. kids 13 and younger can run a mini-steeplechase with fun obstacles.

Online registration is $15 through Sept. 13 and includes a short-sleeved cotton T-shirt. Online registration Sept. 14 to 26 is $20 and includes a short-sleeved cotton T-shirt, although size is not guaranteed. Registration from 4 to 4:40 p.m. at the event is $25.

A 5K awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. will present prizes to the top three male and female runners overall and from nine different age groups. All paid participants will be entered into a drawing for additional prizes and are invited to see an equine demonstration by the St. James Farm Pony Club.

"The St. Jimmy Shimmy offers a unique experience for every member of the family, with proceeds supporting restoration at this historic property," said Bob McNeel, a district ranger and event coordinator.

"Participants can try a trail-style 5K, enjoy a leisurely 1-mile history hike or tackle a fun kids course."
