Cutler admits 2nd pick was his fault

Jay Cutler's ill-advised pass, which resulted in his second interception Sunday, has been a hot topic of debate outside Halas Hall, and it was discussed inside the Bears' facility Monday.

"We went through the tape, and Jay was very clear," Trestman said. "We sit in a group, and we all take accountability. I talk to the guys about the mistakes I made during the course of the game, and the guys are upfront.

"Jay just said, 'I've got to take care of the football. I've got to throw it away.' He stood up there and said that."

That third-and-1 play thwarted a potential scoring drive drive and led to a Bills field goal that gave them a 20-17 lead with 4:02 left in regulation. It provided a teaching point for Trestman.

"What you're coaching guys to do is either throw it away, (or) if you can get the first down get it. We were going to go for it on fourth down. We were in a four-down situation right there.

"We tried to get him on the perimeter and make something happen, and we didn't get it done. Anytime you're in a position to run or throw it, just take care of the football. In that situation it's just a matter of throwing it away."

Waiting and wondering:

No update was provided on the condition of guard Matt Slauson, center Roberto Garza or wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who all suffered ankle injuries Sunday, or wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (hamstring).

Coach Marc Trestman said Marshall's rehab schedule would not be affected by his traveling to New York for his weekly appearance on Showtime's "Inside the NFL." Marshall was able to play through his injury, while the other three did not return to action.

Getting comfortable:

The Bears will fly to California on Friday for Sunday night's game against the 49ers, which is a day earlier than they usually travel for an away game.

"We'll leave after practice, get a good night's sleep (and) get acclimated (to the time change)," coach Marc Trestman said. "We'll meet on Saturday morning, have a walk-through, go outside and move around a little bit, get them stretched out a little bit after the trip and take on a normal Saturday-Sunday meeting schedule."

Coming and going: Safety Ahmad Dixon was signed off the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad, and cornerback Demontre Hurst was waived.

The 6-foot, 210-pound Dixon was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round (248th overall) earlier this year out of Baylor. He was signed to the Vikings' practice squad last week after being waived by the Cowboys. He was a second-team Associated Press All-American last year.

Hurst, who spent last season on the Bears' practice squad, made his first NFL appearance Sunday on special teams
