Bikes, walkers, cars not a good mix
The Barrington Hills bikers are interesting, but Boulder, Colo., is even more so. There, pedestrians of any sort have right of way at any location. If you drive in Boulder, prepare to be a Bobblehead. Look thrice at every intersection before advancing through a green light. Bikers, walkers on cellphones, texting skateboarders - they are all there and don't look before crossing.
It was difficult to drive there, if not unnerving. In less than a few hours we were wheeling our rental car through residential neighborhoods to avoid the highway through the middle of Boulder. It is not a disaster waiting to happen - it is a disaster already because cars and pedestrians don't mix.
There are thousands of miles of unused "bike trails" running next to our nations busiest thoroughfares. Think again.
