Police: 2 Waukegan armed robberies likely linked to others
Two armed robberies that happened in Waukegan earlier this week may be linked to similar robberies in Gurnee, Zion and Round Lake, police said.
On Monday, a man with a handgun entered Rainbow Kids, at 1305 N. Lewis Ave., at 8:30 p.m. and took cash, Waukegan police said in a news release. Just after 9 p.m., a man matching the same description entered Family Dollar, 1106 Washington St., and also took cash.
Witnesses described the man as 6 feet tall and thin, wearing a black button down sweater with an "R" on it, blue jeans and a black baseball hat.
Police believe three other robberies may be linked based on the suspect's description: a robbery Aug. 24 at Daisy's Quick Mart, 726 S. Milwaukee Ave., in Gurnee; Aug. 26 at Family Dollar, 1209 Barnhart Court in Zion; and Aug. 26 at Dollar General, 212 W. Washington St. in Round Lake.
