Waukegan should back Clean Power campaign
The Clean Power Lake County campaign submitted letters signed by 26 state and local public officials to NRG Energy CEO David Crane, expressing their concerns regarding pollution from the coal-burning power plant in Waukegan - as well as their support for the goals of the Clean Power Lake County campaign.
The elected officials showing their support included congressmen, state senators and state representatives and the majority of the Lake County Board. However, there was one glaring omission of support: No elected officials of the City of Waukegan signed the letter.
Without support from the elected officials of Waukegan, why would NRG Energy truly feel the need to move the plant site forward in a manner that is most beneficial to Waukegan and its residents? If you are a Waukeganite who, like me, believes our city deserves a better future on the lakefront, then I ask you to reach out to your alderman and the mayor and ask them to support the Clean Power Lake County campaign.
