Boomers rally, then fall short against CornBelters

NORMAL - The Schaumburg Boomers fell behind early. rallied to tie, then dropped a 7-4 decision to the Normal CornBelters in Midwest League action Tuesday night.

Alexi Colon hit his ninth homer of the season in the sixth inning and the Boomers (48-34) scored twice in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. Cam Sherrer, who was signed at the transaction deadline for his second stint with the Boomers, hit an RBI groundout and Michael Valadez drove home Mark Nelson (2 hits) with a single.

Boomers starter Eddie Cody worked 5⅔ innings and allowed 3 runs but did not figure in the decision. Clark Labitan took the loss.

The Boomers (48-34) send right-hander Cal Bowling (6-7, 5.66 ERA) against righty Bobby Shore (4-5, 4.33) in the second game of the three-game series today at 7 p.m.
