Where does Chicago rank in sleep deprived cities?
Feeling tired this week? It might be more than your imagination.
People who live in metropolitan areas like Chicago, on average, get less sleep, according to new statistics compiled by fitness company Jawbone.
Chicago residents get an average of 6 hours and 50 minutes of sleep at night (that's 50 more minutes than I got last night). Experts recommend 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night.
Unfortunately, our bragging rights end there. Out of the 21 cities measured, Chicago falls smack-dab in the middle. The city that gets the least sleep? If you guessed New York, you'd be wrong. It's Vegas, with 6 hours and 32 minutes of sleep. The city with the most is Orlando, land of the vacationing families, with 6 hours and 56 minutes of sleep.
If 6 minutes doesn't seem like a big difference between Chicago and Orlando average sleep times, think of it this way: The average person in the U.S. lives 27,375 days, so that adds up to 164,250 minutes, 2,737 hours, of sleep in a lifetime. It adds up.
When you compare us to the rest of the world, we're farther down the scale. Residents in Melbourne, Australia sleep an average of 6 hours and 58 minutes a night. Tokyo residents log the least sleep at just 5 hours 44 minutes.

If we're not sleeping, are we at least moving? A bit. Chicago residents are averaging 7,923 steps a day, or about 4 miles.
