Flooding causes major delays on Eisenhower Expressway
The rain has moved on but flooded areas continue in some areas in Cook County due to severe thunderstorms Monday evening.
Traffic is moving again on Interstate 290 after authorities closed the expressway between Harlem Avenue and Mannheim Road due to flooding.
Officials initially blocked westbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway late Monday night because of deep water on the expressway. All traffic can now pass through the affected areas, though one eastbound lane remains closed because of damage due to the water.
Des Plaines also experienced flooding in the area of Rand Road near Golf Road.
A flash flood warning from the National Weather Service was in effect until 2:30 a.m. for some areas in Cook County.
River Forest recorded 3-inches of rain during that warning, according to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, while Oak Park recorded about 2.5-inches of rain overnight.
People are advised not to drive through flooded areas.
There is a 20 percent chance of more showers and thunderstorms this morning.
