Ruse to Enter Residence Prompts Notice from West Chicago Police

Due the proximity of a recent incident in unincorporated West Chicago, the West Chicago Police Department is forwarding details to its residents regarding a ruse to enter a residential property. The information is intended to heighten awareness in the community as well as to seek additional information regarding the suspects in the incident.

The incident, which occurred on June 17, 2014, involved several men in a white Nissan extended cab truck which pulled into the victim's driveway off of Kaelin Road in unincorporated West Chicago. A subject approached the front door and spoke with the victim.

The subject explained that he had extra concrete from a previous job and would fix the victim's driveway at a reduced rate. The subject then talked the victim out of the house and to the rear of the residence. The victim realized she had left the front door open and returned to the front of the home, where she then observed another male exiting the residence.

Neither man would produce a business card when asked and immediately entered the Nissan and drove away. Nothing appeared to be missing from the residence.

Surveillance video received from a neighboring house captured the suspect's vehicle, which appears to have front end damage on the passenger's side quarter panel.

The suspects are described as following:

• Suspect #1 is a white male who spoke clearly in English without a recognizable accent. He is approximately 5'8"-5'9", had a medium build and was wearing a white t-shirt.

• Suspect #2 is approximately 5'5"-5'7", had a large stomach and was wearing a white t-shirt and a baseball cap with a red bill.

• Additional suspects observed exiting the vehicle were described by witnesses as four white males, possibly of Russian or Polish descent and all possibly wearing coveralls.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Mowrer at the DuPage County Sheriff's Office at (630) 407-2400.
