National Night Out in the Northwest suburbs

Here's a look at how several Northwest suburbs are celebrating National Night Out:

Arlington Heights: Home security tips, business expo, fire truck and police vehicle displays, demonstrations from the police K-9 unit and the Cook County bomb squad, food vendors, inflatable bounce houses, balloons, free Popsicles and popcorn for kids and live music at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at North School Park, 410 N. Arlington Heights Road.

Barrington: Public safety car show, fittings for kids' bicycle helmets, a police K-9 performance, a DJ, free hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks, face-painting, balloon artist from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Cook and Station streets.

Buffalo Grove: Free food, live music, a business expo, games and interactive displays by police and fire departments from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Willow Stream Park, 651 Old Checker Road. Extra parking is available at the north entrance of the park.

Des Plaines: Display of police and fire department vehicles, face painting, climbing wall, food pantry drive and representatives from the U.S. Marines, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, local Neighborhood Watch group and Des Plaines Police Crime Stoppers from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the north parking lot of Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road.

Prospect Heights: Free open swim, food and drinks, games, prizes and music from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gary Morava Recreation Center, 110 W. Camp McDonald Road.

Rolling Meadows: Fireworks, Jesse White Tumblers, crafts, face-painting, free snacks, giveaways, and free pool hours from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Center Park, 3705 Pheasant Drive.

Schaumburg: Games, contests, a DJ, meet-and-greet with Schaumburg police officers and firefighters, barbecue concessions and beverages (for a small fee), police motorcycle display from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Open swim in the Meineke pool from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
